Just For Dads
> Residential Unit

'The Other Half' Group is a group for fathers attending the Residential Unit. It has been running since August 2005, after families identified a need for fathers to meet with other fathers during their residential stay. The group focuses on practical information. Most dads have said that they want information on how to support their partner, how to balance work and family, learning practical parenting tips, and information on why it is important for dads to be involved. The group is facilitated by a male nurse (he can also offer insight into what it is like for him to be a dad) and a female social worker (who is able to highlight some of the issues the mothers may be facing). The main message of the group is that "dads are important too". Their involvement is important, whatever the age of the baby!

Fathers who have attended 'The Other Half' Group have commented that it has been useful to discuss practical suggestions to benefit their relationships with their partner and child, and to be able to feel 'included' in the stay at Karitane.

‘The Other Half' Group occurs every Wednesday night from 6pm to 7pm.
